Senior Security Engineer

We are currently seeking a Senior Security Engineer who will be responsible for the security aspects of building, configuring, monitoring, and reporting on a wide array of complex systems, hosts, and network devices.

Job Description and Responsibilities

  • Proactively evaluate system and network security, make recommendations for improvement, perform preventive maintenance, and apply security updates as required by ARIN policies. Implement security practices and procedures in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Implement Defense in Depth principles and technology in security engineering design and implementation.
  • Take a lead role in maintaining and evidence collection for organization-wide compliance initiatives.
  • Assist the development and oversee the implementation of information security policies, strategic plans, and security initiatives that include security classification/categorization, risk and vulnerability assessments, security controls design and implementation, incident response, business continuity, security awareness, network and application security, and security audits.
  • Evaluate, design, and establish monitoring mechanisms for performance, security, capacity, and maintenance. Monitor systems and make corrections or recommendations to resolve issues as they arise.
  • Review and assess information security events and logs via security information/event manager.
  • Provide on-call security support for all critical networks and systems on a rotating basis.

Additional Duties

  • Contribute to the design, building, and implementation of applications and systems as needed. Provide subject matter expertise on security issues related to Linux, Unix, macOS, and Windows-based platforms and technologies.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
  • Ability and willingness to travel in accordance with ARIN travel guidelines.

Background/Skills Required

  • Four-year college degree, preferably in an information security or computer science-related discipline OR equivalent combination of education and experience. In lieu of education, four years of information security experience may be substituted.
  • 8-10 years of job-related experience supporting Linux or Unix environments, focusing on security practices.
  • Extensive experience in monitoring, supporting, and managing complex Linux and Unix systems, especially Red Hat/CentOS systems.
  • Have experience with Suricata, Arkime, Graylog, OpenBSD’s PF, F5, and FortiMail antispam appliances, as well as endpoint protection for Windows, Linux, and macOS.
  • Experience with maintaining SOC 2 and PCI compliance and evidence gathering.
  • Ability to understand complex instructions and work independently.
  • Good interpersonal skills. Strong verbal and written skills.

Background/Skills Preferred

  • Familiarity with common Internet protocols such as TCP/IP, IPv6, DNS, DNSSEC, SMTP, and HTTP.
  • Familiarity with git, Ansible, macOS, Windows, network operations, and database administration.
  • Strong Python and Bourne shell scripting experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to pick up and maneuver computer equipment weighing 20-40 pounds.

Staff Attorney

We are currently seeking a Staff Attorney who will provide legal services with a focus on supporting ARIN’s General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel in the areas of contract matters, privacy issues, legal research, and fraud investigation. This position will also provide support to ARIN’s Advisory Council.

Job Description and Responsibilities

  • Review vendor contracts including terms of service, terms of use, and related documentation.
  • Provide advice on legal and practical sufficiency of documentation submitted to ARIN.
  • Monitor relevant privacy laws and developing legislation with regard to potential impact to ARIN’s services.
  • Conduct research on topics as assigned.
  • Attend meetings of ARIN’s Advisory Council.
  • Track any assigned matters through ARIN’s internal systems and procedures and ensure proper disposition and timely responses on open matters.
  • Review documentation submitted to ARIN to support claims of rights to registrations within ARIN’s registry database.
  • Other general legal matters as assigned.

Additional Duties

  • Report to ARIN’s Deputy General Counsel on assessment of cases of suspected fraud/hijacking and other tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to travel to various locations to attend ARIN meetings and possibly industry related conferences as may be needed from time to time.

Background/Skills Required

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Law degree from an accredited law school and license from the Virginia State Bar to practice law in Virginia.
  • Excellent contract review and modification skills, as well as editing, legal research, analysis, and writing skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write clear and effective reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills, strong computer skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and details in a timely manner. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Must have meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to complete assigned work within prescribed deadlines.
  • Ability to manage a widely varying workload, and flexibility to adapt to changing needs, multiple priorities, and short deadlines.
  • Ability to participate and interact in a team environment and maintain effective working relationships with other members of ARIN staff.

Background/Skills Preferred

  • Prior law journal or legal writing experience.
  • Familiarity with corporate and legal documents as well as online legal research tools.
  • Familiarity with Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) system.
  • Familiarity with privacy law and related issues.
  • Prior employment at an Internet or technical company.
