First Quarter Investigation Results
ARIN received 65 fraud reports in the first quarter of 2024. Of the reports received:
- 55 involved matters such as abusive activity that are outside the scope of ARIN’s fraud reporting process. No action was necessary.
- One report involved out of region use of resources. We were unable to confirm; however, the reports were logged and will be further investigated should the organizations requests additional resources.
- Ticket number: 20240102-F3951
- Three reports involved unauthorized routing. The unauthorized routes were withdrawn and RPKI/IRR information was provided to help prevent future incidents.
- Ticket numbers: 20240307-F7326, 20240322-F7447, 20240322-F7448
- One report involved unused IPv4 address space. Since ARIN cannot revoke resources due to lack of use, no action was taken.
- Ticket number: 20240103-F3953
- Two reports involved unjustified use of IPv6 transition blocks. We were unable to confirm but will review should the organizations request additional resources.
- Ticket numbers: 20240109-F3956, 20240330-F7456
- Three reports involved stale contact information. The stale information was removed.
- Ticket numbers: 20240111-F3957, 20240117-F3958, 20240118-F3961
In addition to the legitimate reports, the Fraud Reporting Form was subject to a phishing attack that resulted in thousands of extra submissions - however, none of those submissions are included in the above summary.
Second Quarter Investigation Results
ARIN received 58 fraud reports in the second quarter of 2024. Of the reports received:
- 52 involved matters such as abusive activity that are outside the scope of ARIN’s fraud reporting process. No action was necessary.
- 3 involved unauthorized routing. The routes were subsequently withdrawn.
- Ticket numbers: 20240617-F7507, 20240601-F7495, 20240531-F7494
- 1 report involved fraudulent use of IPv6 transition space. The account has been flagged for further review.
- Ticket number: 20240604-F7497
- 2 reports involved reports of multiple accounts being used to bypass ARIN’s policies. Our investigation into both is ongoing.
- Ticket numbers: 20240623-F7511, 20240413-F7461
Third Quarter Investigation Results
ARIN received 59 fraud reports in the third quarter of 2024. Of the reports received:
- 50 involved matters such as abusive activity that are outside the scope of ARIN’s fraud reporting process.
- No action was necessary.
- 1 report involved publication/submission of fraudulent reassignment information. Our investigation is ongoing.
- Ticket number: 20240916-F7566
- 2 reports involved publication of incorrect reassignment information. The reassignments were removed.
- Ticket numbers: 20240706-F7517, 20240706-F7518
- 1 report involved unauthorized out of region use of resources. We were unable to confirm but logged the report for review if/when the organization requests additional resources.
- Ticket number: 20240716-F7524
- 2 reports involved stale reassignment information. The stale records were removed.
- Ticket numbers: 20240724-F7540, 20240726-F7543
- 2 reports involved unauthorized routing. The routes were withdrawn.
- Ticket numbers: 20240726-F7542, 20240912-F7561
- 1 report involved unauthorized IRR information. The record was removed.
- Ticket number: 20240922-F7570
