Submit Your Self-Nomination for the NRO Number Council
Nominations for the ARIN Board of Trustees and Advisory Council have closed, but if you’re interested in a leadership position with a global scope, now is your chance to take the next step. ARIN is still accepting nominations to fill one seat on the Number Resource Organization Number Council (NRO NC). For all bodies, the candidates elected to full terms in the 2025 ARIN Elections will serve three-year terms beginning 1 January 2026, and incumbents may be reelected for consecutive terms.
Any individual may submit a self-nomination — association with a General Member organization is not required. Read the Call for Nominations announcement and Nominations 101 blog post for more information, to access the NRO NC nomination application, and to view requirements, expected qualifications, and responsibilities for ARIN’s elected positions.
The call for nominations for the NRO NC will close Monday, 14 July. Submit yours today!
Watch the Leadership Development Series
If you’re looking to take on a leadership role in the ARIN community — or just get a better understanding of how you can participate without running for office — our on-demand Leadership Development Series makes it easy and convenient to learn about the process. These two short instructional videos on governance and policy explain how ARIN fits into the larger Internet governance community, our election cycle, the composition and responsibilities of the ARIN Board and AC, and how you can get involved.
A Reminder About Voting
Voting in ARIN Elections is open to the Voting Contacts of General Members in Good Standing in place 45 days before the elections. Explore Training for New Customers with ARIN Academy
In May, we launched ARIN’s free, interactive e-learning platform, ARIN Academy, to provide accessible, educational resources for the ARIN community. The platform debuts with two courses developed to provide immediate value to our new customers:
- Getting Started with ARIN: A walkthrough of fundamental concepts and best practices for navigating and using ARIN’s customer account management portal, ARIN Online, focused on account setup and creation of Points of Contact and Organization records.
- Using ARIN’s Hosted RPKI: An overview of Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI) that provides a clear understanding of RPKI’s role in enhancing Internet routing security and how your organization can use ARIN’s Hosted RPKI services.
More content about ARIN and its services is slated for future release. For more information about ARIN Academy and to enroll in courses, visit arin.net/training. Questions or comments? Email us at [email protected].
Check Out New Features Added to ARIN’s Site and Services
May 2025 was a busy month for the ARIN Engineering team, with two releases introducing multiple new features to ARIN Online and other services:
- New Terms of Service: As of 19 May, ARIN has updated its Terms of Service to version 1.1 to incorporate ARIN’s new learning management system, ARIN Academy.
- Improved Ask ARIN Functionality: Functionality has been significantly improved for the Ask ARIN support feature in ARIN Online, allowing web users to associate their ticket with an Org ID via a new Org ID selector, share tickets with others in their organization using a new Shared Ticket checkbox, and more easily categorize their requests with an upgraded topic selection featuring radio buttons and helpful descriptions.
- Enriched RDAP API Search Capabilities: As of 21 May, ARIN’s Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP) service has been enhanced to allow users to make new queries equivalent to those available through the Whois-RWS service API. Learn more about these new calls and why now is the time to switch to RDAP in our recent blog post: Leveraging New Features in ARIN’s Registration Data Access Protocol API.
- ASPA Added to OT&E: ARIN’s Operational Test & Evaluation environment now includes Autonomous System Provider Authorization (ASPA) functionality in both the user interface and RESTful API.
Prepare for Origin AS Retirement
The Origin Autonomous System (Origin AS) field will be officially removed from the ARIN database on 28 July. This change follows the ARIN Board of Trustees’ July 2023 adoption of policy ARIN-2021-8, which called for the deprecation of the “Autonomous System Originations” field.
We recommend any customers who query the Origin AS database for routing security or operational purposes to transition to a more modern and secure alternative such as RPKI or the Internet Routing Registry (IRR). These tools provide more reliable and secure options for managing and verifying routing information.
For more information on Origin AS and how your organization can prepare for its retirement, read this post on the ARIN Blog.
Read the 2024 ARIN Annual Report
After the end of each fiscal year, ARIN staff compiles and publishes an annual report. Last year ARIN made significant improvements and advancements across the organization — enhancing existing tools, streamlining services, and modernizing outdated systems — to deliver top-tier services, expand our community engagement, and strengthen our organization’s resilience. Take a look at the 2024 annual report to learn more about them. The report shares information about the activities of the ARIN staff, Board of Trustees, and Advisory Council, as well as ARIN’s activities within the global Internet community. You’ll find updates from our President and CEO and the Chair of ARIN’s Board of Trustees, a summary of 2024 accomplishments, departmental highlights, and much more. Thank you to everyone who supported us in reaching our organizational objectives during 2024!

Learn About Requesting Resources as an Individual
Whether you’re a sole proprietor, freelancer, or single-person business owner within ARIN’s region, we want you to understand your options for requesting Internet number resources. Read our recent blog post on eligible business structures, documentation requirements, ensuring compliance and responsibility, and regional considerations to learn how you may qualify as an individual business entity and the steps involved in ensuring your eligibility.
Stay Up to Date on the ICP-2 Review Process
In October 2023, the Number Resource Organization Executive Council (NRO EC) asked the NRO Number Council (NRO NC), which fulfils the role of the Address Supporting Organization Address Council (ASO AC), to establish and manage a process to update the Internet Coordination Policy (ICP-2): Criteria for Establishment of New Regional Internet Registries document. The open and transparent process to modify ICP-2 is now in its review stage, following the Community Feedback on the Draft RIR Governance Document period, which collected comments from the Regional Internet Registry communities and the ICANN public comment process from 14 April to 27 May 2025.
The ASO AC will discuss the feedback received, use it to inform the next draft, and work with the NRO EC to publish and present the amended draft for review to the RIR and ICANN communities at upcoming meetings and other NRO and RIR publication channels in the later months of 2025. Details on the next steps in the review process will be published on the NRO website in the coming weeks. Once all reviews and edits are completed, the process will move to the Approval and Adoption stage, in which the ASO AC’s recommended document will be delivered to the NRO EC for its consideration. The NRO EC and ICANN will determine the procedures for approval and adoption.
Full details on the globally coordinated, regional review process and outcomes are available on the NRO website.
Plan for the 2026 Fee Increase
At its meeting on 27 April 2025, and in conformance with the new Registration Services Plan (RSP) Fee Schedule, the Board of Trustees approved a 5 percent increase to RSP fees for 2026. The new fee schedule is available at: 2026 Fee Schedule. You can view the estimated annual fee for your organization by using the Fee Estimate Calculator when logged in to ARIN Online.
This change was approved to support ARIN’s long-term financial strategy, which aims to align operating costs with revenues while maintaining tight cost control targets for the organization through 2030.
If you have questions, please contact [email protected] or submit via Ask ARIN while logged in to your ARIN Online account.

Benefits of Role vs. Person Points of Contact
There are two different types of Point of Contact (POC) handles, which are used to manage an organization’s records with ARIN. Choosing to use a Role POC instead of a Person POC handle is considered best practice and offers these advantages:
- Multiple Accounts: Unlike a Person POC handle, a Role POC handle may have more than one ARIN Online account linked to it.
- Simple Transitions: Role POC handles enable efficient transitions when adding and removing users. For example, if the authoritative POC for your organization is a Person POC and they leave without updating the record, the new user would need to perform an Organization Recovery — a ticketed request requiring evaluation by ARIN staff and a $100 nonrefundable transaction fee. Whereas, if the authoritative POC is a Role POC, the new user would simply need access to the email address of the Role POC to assume authority.
- Maintain Privacy: Using a Role POC allows for privacy in ARIN’s Whois by displaying a role name such as “NOC Team” instead of an individual’s name.
Canadian Tax ID Fields Added to Org Create
When you request Internet number resources ARIN may ask you to provide certain documentation to confirm your eligibility. As part of our commitment to accurate and compliant registry data, we are aligning with jurisdictional requirements for organizations operating in Canada. We’ve recently added fields to the Organization ID request form to collect business registration identifiers, such as the Canada Revenue Agency Business Number (CRA BN) or Quebec Enterprise Number (NEQ). This information helps ensure ARIN meets its responsibilities as a Regional Internet Registry and supports the integrity of Internet number resource management in the region.
